metablog ideas

I had some silly ideas bubbling up immediately that pertain to having my site powered by a custom blog engine, especially one that I control with a fairly scalable storage backend.

Sorry for being a scatterbrain, but I want to explicitly call out something I just invented and I'm going to use a lot because of precisely being a huge scatterbrain, I LOVE to go off on tangents. So, up above you notice I have a section of prose that I put a hovertext on! When you see this visual indicator, your mouse cursor will change and you can read some additional thoughts I have. It's like an alternative to using parentheses. I do find that I often want to write so many parethesized thoughts out, to the point of disrupting the paragraphs.

Now that I've tested that idea out, it's really silly and I would want to play with it a bit more with javascript to make the hover text less tiny and ugly and to have working UX on mobile. I don't think it's great because although it doesn't disrupt the prose as much, I'm not sure I can do it in a way that isn't ugly that still can hint to the reader that they need to hover it to interact with it.

Another idea I had was since I'm keeping this blog entirely in a git repo, I could build a nice little self-hosted internet archive for the blog so a reader, if so inclined (again, though, why......) could navigate through a slider and view its evolution. It would be pretty easy for me to automate this on the backend if I have oodles of storage. I might play around with it with a webpage inception concept (make a special embedded website inside this one that exposes various states of it from the past via the git repo).

You're just going to have to accept that this list may end up filled with terrible useless ideas. We have to generate a lot of terrible ideas in order to work toward the good ones worth pursuing.
